The Distinguished Speakers Board is pleased to announce its first event for the year: The State of Satire. Megan Amram, Kevin Avery, Aasif Mandvi, and Scott Dikkers will be speaking in a joint event on Tuesday October 6, at CU-Boulder’s Macky Auditorium Concert Hall. Doors will open at 6:15pm and the event will begin at 7:00pm.
Four of today’s most acclaimed satirists come together at Macky Auditorium for a one-of-a-kind discussion on the state of comedy today. The panel will be moderated by Scott Dikkers, founding editor of The Onion. He will be joined by Aasif Mandvi of “The Daily Show”, “Halal in the Family”, and HBO’s “The Brink”; Kevin Avery, writer for “Last Week Tonight with John Oliver” and co-host of award-winning podcast “Denzel Washington is the Greatest Actor of All Time Period”; and Megan Amram, writer for “Parks and Recreation”, “Children’s Hospital”, and ”Silicon Valley” and author of “Science…for Her!”. The discussion centers on how satire shapes public discourse today. The panelists will also evaluate the current impact of social media and offer some insights on the future of comedy.
Tickets for the event will be $2 for CU-Boulder Students with a valid Buff OneCard and $10 for community members. Student tickets will be available starting September 21st on the first floor of the University Memorial Center (UMC) at the Distinguished Speakers Board Table, Monday through Friday, 10:30am to 3:00pm.
