Actor and Activist George Takei to Speak at University of Colorado Boulder, Oct. 26

The Distinguished Speakers Board is pleased to announce its first speaker of the year George Takei. Mr. Takei will speak on Oct. 26 at CU Boulder’s Macky Auditorium Concert Hall. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. and the event will begin at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets for the event will be $2 for CU Boulder students and $10 for CU Boulder faculty and staff. Both will need a valid Buff OneCard for purchase. Community tickets will be $25. Student and faculty/staff tickets will be available starting October 10 on the first floor of the University Memorial Center (UMC) at the Distinguished Speakers Board Table, Monday through Friday, 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. (cash only). Community tickets will be available online at macky.colorado.edu starting at 10:30 a.m. on Oct 10. There will be a Q&A portion with the audience following the event.

Takei first rose to prominence as an actor, starring in the Star Trek television series from 1966 to 1969 as Hikaru Sulu, helmsman of the USS Enterprise. Takei’s return to fame in recent times can be attributed to his involvement in social media. With a Facebook page with over 9.7 million likes, Takei has leveraged this platform to support LGBTQ rights, discuss and promote human rights, and support Japanese Americans. Now Takei tours the country discussing all aspects of his life and has become a powerful voice in a wide range of important areas.
